GOLF MAGAZINE Selects Local Amateur From Mason, Ohio

Golfer one of 30 finalists for St. Joseph Pressure Challenge

GOLF MAGAZINE has selected Karen Brackenridge of Mason, Ohio, as one of the 30 amateur golfers and one of just three women from across the country to compete to win $250,000 in its dynamic new reality TV show, “The St. Joseph Pressure Challenge.”

CBS Sports commentators David Feherty and Bill Macatee will host the show, airing on the CBS Television Network on May 14, 2-3 p.m. EST and May 20, 2-3 p.m. EST.  The event takes place at The Links at Lighthouse Sound in Ocean City, Md., one of GOLF MAGAZINE’s Top 100 Courses.

As a college math instructor, Brackenridge, 36, wonders if she will be able to “make the correct financial decision” when the time comes during “The St. Joseph Pressure Challenge.”  The married mother of one is an 11.7 handicap.

GOLF MAGAZINE searched the country for golfers with a USGA-registered handicap of 8 or higher who were excited for the opportunity to battle TOUR-like pressure in front of cameras, spectators and a national viewing audience.  After reviewing more than 1,100 online applications, conducting four open casting calls and analyzing more than 64 hours of taped interviews with more than 500 golfers, producers narrowed the field to 30 participants who will earn a trip to participate in the show’s taping on April 19 and 20 at The Links at Lighthouse Sound in Ocean City, Md.

The cast will compete in a “closest to pin” qualifying competition and golfers who advance to the first tee will then attempt to par nine consecutive holes, each with an increasing monetary value ($1,000, $2500, $5000, etc).  A $250,000 grand prize is awaiting the player(s) who can accomplish the feat.  Participants will be entitled to three “mulligans” – golf-speak for do-overs – with a limit of one per hole and not to be used for putting.  After each par, players must decide whether to keep their winnings or continue to play and risk their winnings on the next hole.  After five consecutive pars, players are guaranteed to leave with no less than $10,000.

The 30 competitors that will get the opportunity to shoot for $250,000 include: Azam Baig, Annapolis, Md; Larry Baker, Jacksonville, Fla.; Ken Barnes, Higley, Ariz.; Esteade Bolden, Austell, Ga.; Karen Brackenridge, Mason, Ohio; Sherry Brodie, Ridgewood, NJ; Ron Childs, Bronx, NY; David Comey, Villanova, PA; Philip Dishner, Kingsport, Tenn.; James Durfer, Florence, Mass.; Simon Ecob, Mesa, Ariz.; John Egan, Island Park, NY; J. Esparza, San Rafael, Calif.; Matt Forrer, Ephrata, PA; Sonya Geisel, Phoenix, AZ; Jim Henderson, Pittsburgh, Penn.; Bill Herbst, Ocean City, MD; Joe Ianetti, Bloomingdale, NJ; Jonathan Klingler, Vienna, Va.; Todd Koppa, Mesa, AZ; Eddie Krumpotich, New Market, Md.; Brian Machowski, Mountaintop, Penn.; Brice Mindrum, Roy, Utah; Rick Murray, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Steve Poppe, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Michael Sczepanik, Titusville, Fla.; Dave Singletary, Wareham, Mass.; Shane Urry, Mesa, Ariz.; Richard Weber, Berlin, Md.  Additional information and a video clip of each competitor is available at www.stjosephpressurechallenge.com:

The show’s title sponsor, St. Joseph® Aspirin, maker of St. Joseph 81 mg Adult Low Dose Aspirin (www.stjosephaspirin.com), will choose the final contestant, who will play on behalf of a charity (both contestant and charity will be named at a later date).  Additional sponsors of the “St. Joseph Pressure Challenge” include:  Cobra Golf, equipment sponsor; Buick Motor Division, automotive sponsor; Dockers® San Francisco, apparel sponsor; Ocean City Golf Getaway and Ocean City, Maryland, host sponsor.

In addition to any cash winnings earned, contestants will receive Cobra Golf bags to transport their own clubs through the course, and any golfer who birdies the second hole will receive a full club set from Cobra Golf including: a Speed driver, Speed 3 wood, a Baffler, a set of Inertia irons and a new Optica putter.  As the official automotive sponsor of the show, Buick Motor Division will provide complimentary transportation to the Links at Lighthouse Sound in Buick Lucernes and will provide Buick Lucerne golf carts during the competition.  Additionally, Buick will give away a Lucerne to the first golfer who gets a hole-in-one on the third hole.  The official apparel sponsor, Dockers® San Francisco, will wardrobe all contestants in golf outfits, and golfers who birdie the seventh hole will receive a complete Dockers wardrobe retail valued at $1,000.  Golfers who birdie the fifth hole will receive two first class tickets to/from any American Airlines/American Eagle/American Connection city in the contiguous 48 United States, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean including Bermuda and the Bahamas.

The taping of “The St. Joseph Pressure Challenge,” is open to the public but space is limited.  Log on to www.stjosephpressurechallenge.com for more information.
